We had a pleasure of welcoming Krystal to our kinder and it was wonderful and engaging experience for the children.

Discussing the types of feelings we have, what colours we feel when we have them, and ways we like to help ourselves when feeling emotions. I love stories that we can discuss, play and link to our little ones lives.

Books are very powerful to use in therapy with kids, as it takes the pressure of the kids. It's a great way to get a message across. Finding Toby's Smile is a story about masking our big feelings and emotions and the impact it has.

As a speechie I'm always looking for ways to encourage positive, pressure-free food experiences. There's no expectation to eat everything, just opportunity to see, touch, smell, prepare and explore new foods through play.

Finding Toby's Smile is a delightful picture book that shows how just one person's act of concern and kindness can have such a big impact when someone is struggling, especially neurodivergent kids. Toby's feelings have been captured in an authentic way that kids will understand. The illustrations have captured Toby beautifully and realistically and in a relatable way.

I loved watching Toby discover his smile, along with the playful rhythm of the story and Toby's adorable little colourful feelings friend. Little readers will love the colourful illustrations and Toby's journey as he discovers his confidence. Grown-ups will appreciate the gentle way the story opens conversations about emotions, confidence and believing in yourself.

Thank you for writing a story that made me pause and look back at my own years as a teacher. While reading, so many little faces came to mind. Children I've taught, moments I still remember, and feelings I understand differently now. This isn't just a one time read for me. It's a book I know I'll return to throughout my teaching journey. A long term keeper on my teacher's bookshelf.

Very young children will be able to practice naming the food on the page whilst being introduced to the idea of colours - I bought it for my nephew who is beginning to use single words. The flowing rhyme moves the story along nicely, so I am sure he will enjoy this book for some years to come! Healthy eating is such an important topic, and this story, supported by colourful page spreads, will be a great way to start this conversation. I’m off to make myself a healthy snack!!
